Lady Jays

In addition to the work that Blue Jays players, coaches and staff do within the community, the organization is extremely proud of the Lady Jays and the time and effort they spend making Toronto a better place. Each year the Lady Jays support the following organizations:

Children's Hospital Visits

On July 25, 2013, the Lady Jays accompanied several Blue Jays players to visit Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. On August 30, 2013, the Blue Jays visited the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). The players and their wives were able participate a variety of games and crafts with patients in Marnie's Lounge. The players were then able to tour the hospital and visit patient's room, which helped them to see firsthand the family-centred care provided by Canada's largest children's hospital.

2013 Lady Jays Food Drive

Lady Jays Food Drive

On July 5, 6 and 7, the Lady Jays hosted their 29th annual Lady Jays Food Drive in support of Food Banks Canada. Fans were able to donate non-perishable food items, provide monetary donations, and purchase mystery bags containing autographed baseball caps for $25.00.

The Lady Jays Food Drive is the longest standing community initiative at the Blue Jays, and each year raises awareness about hunger and food bank use in Canada. The Food Drive was a huge success, and with a generous donation of $5,000 from Jays Care Foundation, was able to raise over $32,500 for Food Banks Canada. In addition to the monetary donations, there was a total of 4,361 pounds of non-perishable food items collected. The food was shared with Food Banks Canada's local Affiliate Member food bank: Daily Bread Food Bank. Daily Bread Food Bank supports approximately 170 member agencies that operate a variety of food relief programs across Toronto. Financial proceeds were directed to Food Banks Canada to support its national programs.

Food Banks Canada supports ten provincial associations and over 480 food banks nationally. Through Food Banks Canada's National Food Sharing System, every dollar raised helps to acquire and share twenty dollars' worth of food and consumer products with individuals who require assistance. Food Banks Canada's works to alleviate hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow.

North York Harvest Food Bank

Food Banks Canada

On July 3, 2013 the Lady Jays volunteered at the North York Harvest Food Bank to offer their support before hosting their 29th annual food drive at Rogers Centre the upcoming weekend.

The North York Harvest Food Bank is the primary food bank in northern Toronto, distributing 1.8 million pounds of food in 2012 through 60 community programs. An independent, charitable organization, North York Harvest strives to meet all of the community members food needs. Devoted volunteers sort food on a daily basis and as part of school and group volunteering activities.

Several Lady Jays and Blue Jays Staff toured the facility, were given a rundown of its daily operations, and spent time sorting food bins; a crucial part of the process prior to the foods distribution. Sorting must take place to ensure all food being distributed meets their strict quality and safety standards.

On May 15, 2013, the Lady Jays volunteered to assist with the Sportsnet Charity Broadcast Auction presented by TD held at Rogers Centre. The event, which raises funds for the Jays Care Foundation, allows fans to bid on Blue Jays packages containing exclusive experiences and collections of memorabilia.

The Lady Jays answered phones and assisted buyers bidding on the various prize packages throughout the baseball game. Thanks to the help of the Lady Jays and other Jays Care volunteers, the evening was an incredible success, and raised more than $172,960 for Jays Care Foundation.
