|The Draft signing deadline may have passed on July 15, but it appears the Cincinnati Reds aren't quite done. MLBPipeline.com has learned Cincinnati will officially sign University of Nevada-Reno outfielder TJ Friedl for an undisclosed bonus. The Reds have not confirmed any deal is in place.

|With the 2016 Draft firmly in the rear-view mirror, work on 2017 is already underway. The high school summer showcase circuit began last week with the Perfect Game National Showcase. Now the scouting industry heads en masse to Cary, North Carolina, for USA Baseball's Tournament of Stars, running from Tuesday through Sunday.

|While the Minor League season kicked off back in early April, there are several leagues just kicking off their seasons now. Short-season schedules began on Friday, giving prospects at the bottom rungs of organizations a chance to show what they can do.
|Left-handed pitching prospect Cody Reed nearly won a job in the Reds' rotation out of Spring Training. Erring on the side of developmental caution, the Reds' No. 3 prospect (No. 60 overall) began the year in Triple-A, his first taste of competition above the Double-A level. After 11 starts, the Reds decided they'd seen enough development and summoned the southpaw to make his Major League debut Saturday in Houston.

|The 2016 Draft concluded last Saturday and, already, the signings are coming in quickly. Soon enough, those players will be making their professional debuts.
