Astros to provide Houston-area families with an unforgettable day at the ballpark

HOUSTON -- Prior to today’s game at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Astros players Geoff Blum, Michael Bourn, LaTroy Hawkins and Russ Ortiz will provide everlasting memories to 50 parents and children from Crockett Elementary, as the Major League Baseball Players Trust’s “Buses for Baseball” program motors into Houston.

Courtesy of the players’ charitable foundation, the families will receive round-trip transportation to the game, meet the players, and receive free tickets, food, beverages and souvenirs. “Buses for Baseball” will provide many of the children with their first chance to attend a Major League Baseball game.

Crockett Elementary serves underprivileged children from low-income families. The attending families also participated in the Volunteers of America Strengthening Families Program, where parents and children learned better ways to communicate with each other.

This season, “Buses for Baseball,” a program administered by the Players Trust and underwritten by Majestic Athletic, a division of VF Imagewear, Inc., will provide transportation and personal greetings for more than 1,500 underprivileged children attending Major League Baseball games as invited guests of their big league heroes.

The Players Trust enjoys support from the Houston Astros organization and First Student Transportation in providing this unique, up close and personal opportunity to share the thrill of Major League Baseball with those less fortunate.
