Machado back in lineup following suspension

Third baseman starts nightcap of doubleheader after five-game penalty

BOSTON -- Orioles third baseman Manny Machado returned to the starting lineup Saturday night after finishing a five-game suspension in Game 1 of the day-night doubleheader against the Red Sox.

Machado, who batted seventh, has been with the team, but not in the dugout during games as part of the punishment stemming from June's benches-clearing incident with Oakland. The O's went 4-1 without Machado, who also missed the first month of the season rehabbing from knee surgery.

Machado, who went 2-for-5 with a double and two strikeouts in a 7-4 win, is hitting .243 with seven homers and 17 RBIs.

Norris throws simulated game

BOSTON -- Bud Norris threw a simulated game in between the Orioles-Red Sox doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, going two innings as he moves closer to a return from the disabled list.

Norris, who has been sidelined by a right groin strain, faced members of the organization: first-base coach Wayne Kirby, vice president of baseball operations Brady Anderson and extra coach Einar Diaz.

Norris faced four batters before he got a break in between innings. His outing was watched by numerous coaches along with manager Buck Showalter. The right-hander is 7-5 with a 3.62 ERA in 14 starts and has allowed two runs over his last 19 2/3 innings.

Showalter said after Saturday night's 7-4 win that Norris will start Tuesday or Wednesday.
