By Brittany Ghiroli / MLB.com
SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Orioles will have intrasquad games Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for their first Grapefruit League exhibition game on Saturday.
The plan is for Wednesday's games to start early, around 10:15 a.m. ET, and for 13 pitchers to throw an inning each on the back fields at the Ed Smith Stadium complex. There will be two three-inning games, with the Orioles set for an early day to held to the Third Annual Birdland Golf Classic, which benefits the Miracle League of Manasota. Closer Jim Johnson is one of the guys heavily involved with the organization and is part of the organizing.
The intrasquad game is open to the public on Wednesday, but no word yet on if Thursday's game -- which will start at 1:05 p.m. ET and last six innings on the main Ed Smith Stadium Field -- will be open or not.
Wednesday's pitchers will be Steve Johnson, Zach Clark, and Mike Wright against Todd Redmond, Dylan Bundy and T.J. McFarland on Field 3. Tommy Hunter, Zach Britton and Adam Russell will pitch against Jake Arrieta, Brian Matusz and Jair Jurrjens on Field 4. Pitching on Thursday for the visiting team will be Mark Hendrickson, Troy Patton, Daniel Schlereth and Eduardo Rodriguez, with Chris Tillman, Pedro Strop, Daniel McCutchen, Mike Belfiore and Kevin Gausman pitching for the home team.
