The Orioles today announced that LHP ADAM LOEWEN has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a re-injury of the stress fracture in his left elbow. To take Loewen's place on the roster, the Orioles have selected the contract of LHP ALBERTO CASTILLO from Triple-A Norfolk.

Loewen, 24, left Sunday's game against Texas in the 5th inning. He was 0-2 with an 8.02 ERA (21.1IP, 19ER) in seven games for the Orioles this season and was on the disabled list from April 25 - June 29 with left elbow soreness. He initially suffered the stress fracture in May 2007 and missed the remainder of last season due to the injury.

Castillo, 33, was 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA (26.1IP, 6ER) in 19 games with Triple-A Norfolk. Originally drafted in the third round of the 1994 First Year Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants as a first baseman/designated hitter, Castillo signed with the Orioles on February 1, 2008. He spent the past seven seasons in the independent leagues.

To make room for Castillo on the 40-man roster, the Orioles have transferred LHP TROY PATTON (left shoulder surgery) from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
