The Orioles today announced that manager SAM PERLOZZO has been relieved of his duties. Orioles coach DAVE TREMBLEY has been named interim manager.

Perlozzo was named interim manager on August 4, 2005 and then hired as the 16th manager in team history on October 12, 2005. He has been a member of the organization since 1996, serving five seasons as third base coach and five as bench coach before being named manager. Perlozzo compiled a 122-164 record as manager of the Orioles.

Trembley, 55, began his first season on the Orioles staff this year as bullpen coach. He has served much of the season as bench coach due to the absence of Tom Trebelhorn, who has tended to family matters. Trembley also serves as field coordinator, setting up pre-game workout and batting practice schedules.

Trembley has spent 22 years in professional baseball, including 20 years as a minor league manager. He joined the Orioles organization in 2003, spending two years at AA Bowie before going to AAA Ottawa. In his first season with the Baysox, he was named winner of the Cal Ripken Sr. Player Development Award.

Trembley has compiled a 1369-1413 record as minor league manager. He won two league titles and earned Manager of the Year awards in three leagues. In 2001, Baseball America selected him as one of minor league baseball's top five managers of the previous 20 years.

The Orioles will open a 6-game roadtrip on Tuesday, beginning with a 3-game series against the San Diego Padres.
