Orioles acquire Patterson from Cubs
tickets for any Major League Baseball game

The Orioles today announced that they have acquired OF COREY PATTERSON from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a pair of minor league players, SS NATE SPEARS and LHP CARLOS PEREZ.

The left-handed hitting Patterson has batted .252 with 70 homers in all or parts of 6 major league seasons, all with the Cubs. He batted a career-high .298 in 2003 and had career-best totals of 24 homers, 72 RBI and 32 stolen bases in 2004.

Patterson, 26, started 111 games in centerfield for the Cubs in 2005. He struggled last season at the plate, batting .215 with 13 homers in 126 games. He hit .278 through the first two months of the season and had 10 homers and 19 RBI in 50 games. He was optioned to AAA Iowa on July 7 and batted .297 in 24 games there before returning to the Cubs in mid-August.

The Georgia native was Chicago's first-round pick (third player selected overall) in the 1998 First-Year Player Draft. He began his pro career in 1999 and reached the majors in September 2000.

Spears batted .294 with 6 home runs and 43 RBI in 112 games for Class A Frederick in 2005, his third pro season. He was the Orioles' 5th round pick in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft.

Perez, signed by the Orioles as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 1999, was 11-8 with a 4.28 ERA in 27 starts for Class A Delmarva last year.
