Orioles purchase Howie Clark
The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have purchased the contract of OF HOWIE CLARK from AAA Rochester and designated 1B RYAN McGUIRE for assignment.
Clark is leading the International League with 117 hits and is 6th in the league with a .330 batting average. He also had 19 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs, 40 RBI and 51 runs in 89 games for the Red Wings. He played five different positions for Rochester and batted a combined .360 in May and June.
Clark was selected by the Orioles in the 27th round of the 1992 First Year Player Draft. He spent all of his minor league career in the Orioles' system with the exception of last year, when he spent the majority of the season with Yucatan of the Mexican League. In 10 minor league seasons with the Orioles, Clark has played 942 games and batted .282 with 54 home runs and 376 RBI.
McGuire appeared in 17 games since his contract was purchased on May 18, batting .077 (2-26) with 2 RBI.
