Padres recall LHP Robbie Erlin from Triple-A Tucson and option RHP Brad Boxberger to Tucson
The San Diego Padres today announced they have recalled left-handed pitcher Robbie Erlin from Triple-A Tucson and have optioned right-hander Brad Boxberger to the same Tucson club. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.
Erlin, 22, is in his fourth stint with the Padres this season. Over six games, four starts, for San Diego this year, the southpaw has gone 1-2 with a 7.15 ERA (18 ER, 22.2 IP) and 16 strikeouts against eight walks. He made his Major League debut for the Padres earlier this season on April 30 at Chicago-NL. Over 20 starts for Tucson this year, Erlin is 8-3 with a 5.07 ERA (56 ER, 99.1 IP) with 84 strikeouts against 34 walks. In his most recent eight-game stint with Tucson, he was 2-1 with a 4.83 ERA (22 ER, 41.0 IP) with 30 strikeouts.
Boxberger, 25, has had four stints with the Padres this season. In 10 relief appearances for San Diego, he has posted a 0-1 record with one save, a 3.07 ERA (5 ER, 14.2 IP), a .264 (14-for-53) opponents batting average and 16 strikeouts against seven walks. The right-hander recorded his first career save on June 6 against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. In 41 outings for Tucson this year, he has posted a 2-4 record with four saves, a 3.67 ERA (23 ER, 56.1 IP), a .238 (50-for-210) opponents batting average and 86 strikeouts against 19 walks.
