BALTIMORE -- Ryan Roberts had to leave Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Orioles after fouling a ball off his left leg in the 11th inning.

X-rays were taken and it was determined that the Rays second baseman has a bruised lower left leg.

"That's always a plus when it's not broke," Roberts said. "You can deal with pain and deal with overcoming it and getting through it as long as it's not seriously injured. That's the case right now, so that's a plus."

Roberts had a pronounced limp after the game and is day to day. Rays manager Joe Maddon said he hoped that Roberts can play against the Yankees this weekend.

"I don't really know [if he can play]," Maddon said. "Can never say never, but we'll see."

Pitcher Chris Archer finished off Roberts' at-bat before taking the mound in the bottom of the 11th. Elliot Johnson took Roberts' place in the field.

Roberts had a tough series as he had to leave the opening game after hurting his left wrist. X-rays were taken for that injury and they proved to be negative as well.

When a reporter pointed out that it had been a rough series for him in Baltimore, Roberts replied: "I'm ready to leave here."
