BALTIMORE -- As expected, the Orioles reinstated outfielder Nick Markakis from the 15-day disabled list and optioned infielder Joe Mahoney to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
Markakis was placed on the DL for the first time in his career on June 1 (retroactive to May 30) with a right hamate bone fracture. He has hit .256/.333/.452 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs in 50 games this season. The Orioles' starting right fielder, Markakis hit .300/.417/1.000 with a double and two home runs in three rehab games with Double-A Bowie.
Mahoney made his Major League debut on Saturday against the Angels, going 0-for-3. He hit .256/.312/.355 with 14 doubles, five home runs and 38 RBIs in 85 games with the Tides this season.
