Scott out with sore left foot
Designated hitter's injury latest in spate of ailments for O's

ST. PETERSBURG -- The short-handed Orioles found themselves down another bat on Thursday, when Luke Scott's sore left foot didn't allow him to play. Scott, who left Wednesday night's game in the seventh inning, was held out of baseball activities before the series finale and will be reevaluated on Friday."We'll see if he'll be able to play tomorrow," said Baltimore manager Dave Trembley. "He's not taking batting practice today. He's not coming out on the field. He's going to stay in there and get treatment."
Scott, Baltimore's designated hitter, has been pressed into action in the outfield because of a recent spate of injuries. Center fielder Adam Jones suffered a season-ending ankle injury at the beginning of the month, and both Felix Pie and Nolan Reimold have been shut down due to nagging ailments over the past few days.
In their absence, the Orioles have been forced to turn to Lou Montanez and Jeff Fiorentino. Fiorentino was slotted in at center field Thursday, leaving Baltimore without a primary outfield reserve on the bench. Both Ty Wigginton and Robert Andino have played in the outfield but retain most of their utility on the infield dirt.
Trembley noted that Scott has about a 50 percent chance of playing again this season, and he said that the Orioles won't push him to get back on the field until he's really ready.
"It looks like he made a lot of improvement," said Trembley. "If he makes the same amount of improvement to tomorrow, he'll be able to play. If he doesn't, then we'll push it back to Saturday. Then you're running out of days."
