Wigginton's blast sets tone in O's win
Third baseman strikes early against Classic's Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic at the plate: Center fielder Willy Taveras reached on a single in the first inning and was hit by a pitch in the third. Former Oriole Miguel Tejada singled in the second inning and stole a base, then hit into a double play in the fourth. Right fielder Jose Guillen smoked a loud double, but was stranded on base.
Orioles at the plate: The Orioles made two quick outs in the first inning -- but two singles later, third baseman Ty Wigginton gave them a three-run lead with a home run that cleared the left-field wall and landed on a back field. Left fielder Felix Pie doubled one run in during the fourth inning and scored on a Gregg Zaun single.Dominican Republic on the mound: Johnny Cueto, who pitches for the Cincinnati Reds, worked three innings and allowed five hits. Three of those -- including Wigginton's three-run homer -- came in the first inning. Pedro Martinez, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Orioles on the mound: Koji Uehara started and starred against the high-wattage Dominican lineup, throwing three scoreless innings and allowing just two hits. Uehara got Hanley Ramirez to pop up twice and induced a long and loud fly ball from David Ortiz. Matt Albers worked two innings and coaxed two double plays. Grapefruit League records: Dominican Republic, 1-1; Orioles, 4-2 Up next: The Dominican Republic travel to Jupiter, Fla., on Thursday at 2:05 p.m. ET for a game against St. Louis, and Ubaldo Jimenez will be matched against the Cardinals' Todd Wellemeyer.
The Orioles, meanwhile, have a home game against the Marlins at 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, and Radhames Liz will be matched against Florida's Andrew Miller.
