Cardinals on the mound: Kyle Lohse got through the first inning unscathed and got taken deep twice in the second inning. Ian Ostlund walked two batters and gave up three hits and three earned runs in the third. Chris Perez allowed a double to Lou Montanez but escaped the rest of his inning without further damage.

Orioles on the mound: Danys Baez made his long-awaited return to the mound Thursday and retired the first two batters he faced, but then he walked three straight batters and allowed a two-run single. Matt Albers faced the minimum amount of batters in two innings, and Chris Ray retired the side on nine pitches.
