Scott Erickson, a baseball Rip Van Winkle, wants to return to the big leagues, CBS Sports reports on its Web site. The story says Erickson, who hasn't pitched a full season in the big leagues since 2002 and who has been mostly out of the game baseball since 2005, is making noises about a comeback.

Erickson, 40, has contacted the Twins about coming to Spring Training in 2009. His contact, the report says, has prompted a tepid response.

"He wants to come back," Twins GM Bill Smith is quoted as saying. "I told him to go get a job in winter ball and let's see what you can do."

Erickson, who produced a 142-136 record and a 4.59 ERA over 15 big league seasons, is not pitching in the Winter Baseball Leagues. Erickson developed elbow trouble in 2000, which eventually led to Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery. He had pitched 200 innings seven times from 1991 to 1999.
