Spring Training slate to open at Fort Lauderdale against Mets
The Orioles announced their 2009 Spring Training schedule on Wednesday, with 19 games slated for Fort Lauderdale Stadium.
Baltimore will play 35 total games beginning Feb. 25 -- when it opens up at home against the Mets -- and running through April 2. The Orioles will face seven different Major League opponents, including the Cardinals eight times, the Marlins seven, the Mets six and three games against the division-rival Red Sox. The American League champion Rays will make their way to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on March 21.
On March 4, in preparation for the World Baseball Classic this spring, Baltimore will also play host to the Dominican Republic team as it prepares for the Classic. Games against the Nationals and Twins will round out the schedule.
Pitchers and catchers will hold their first workout in the club's 14th season in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 15, with their first full-squad workout coming four days later. Workouts are free and open to the public until Feb. 25. Gates open at 9 a.m. ET each day.
Tickets for all 19 home games will be available online and will also go on sale Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Orioles' box office at Fort Lauderdale Stadium, located at 1301 NW 55th Street in Fort Lauderdale, open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Jan. 12 through Feb. 6. Beginning Feb. 9, the box office will be open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
