BALTIMORE -- It only took four days for the Orioles to experience every result. Baltimore won its first game, lost its second and had its third rained out, giving the Orioles an abbreviated split against Tampa Bay. Thursday's game was postponed an hour before its scheduled start time, and some reports indicate that Friday's game might also be in jeopardy.

The weather was overcast and dreary for most of Thursday morning, and the two teams arrived at Camden Yards to a driving rain. Neither side got to work out on the field, and the decision to bag the game came before the gates were ever opened. The re-scheduling time is uncertain, but Tampa Bay will make two more trips to Camden Yards.

"I don't turn on the Weather Channel," said Baltimore manager Dave Trembley. "I just get up in the morning and assume we're going to play. ... But when I got back here after the luncheon, they told me that anything we were going to do on the field was going to be canceled because we had a tarp on the field."

The rain never went away, and the grounds crew acted on reports that it would continue for several more hours. Trembley said that his pitching rotation won't change and that all his arms will just be pushed back a day, which means that the Orioles will pitch Steve Trachsel, Adam Loewen, Jeremy Guthrie and Brian Burres this weekend against Seattle.

Tampa Bay got off to a quick start in the season opener, blitzing the Orioles and taking a 6-2 victory. The Rays went ahead on Wednesday, too, but the Orioles scored six unanswered runs to take a 9-6 win. Tampa Bay will visit Baltimore again from April 29 to May 1 and from Sept. 22 to 24, giving plenty of chances to re-do the game.

Coinidentally, there is an off-day for both teams on Aug. 21, which is in the middle of a Baltimore homestand.
