FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Reliever Jose Acevedo was involved in a motorcycle accident Friday and is currently hospitalized in the Dominican Republic. Acevedo, the lone Orioles pitcher missing from Spring Training, is reportedly ensconced in intensive care with four broken ribs and a broken collarbone.

"We don't have a lot of details," said Mike Flanagan, Baltimore's executive vice president of baseball operations. "We know he was involved in a serious accident. We don't know the total extent of his injuries."

According to The Associated Press, Acevedo crashed his motorcycle into a car early Friday morning. Officials for his Winter League team, Aguilas Cibaenas, told the AP that they weren't sure whether the car was moving. Acevedo, a non-roster invite to Spring Training, didn't pitch in the big leagues last season.

The Orioles didn't have any visa problems at Spring Training this year and were trying to locate Acevedo as recently as Friday morning. The 29-year-old right-hander has a career record of 18-25 with a 5.74 ERA.

"We knew there was some problems with his flight arrangements," said Flanagan, speaking of the confusion behind Acevedo's whereabouts on Friday. "We didn't think it was of this magnitude."
