Since Major League Baseball's Compton Urban Youth Academy opened in 2006, the program has expanded and its impact has grown. Academies are now open in three more cities, including Cincinnati, Houston and New Orleans. More than 8,000 kids are regularly participating in the program, which helps provide free academic support and athletic instruction to children in the inner city. The Compton academy has graduated more than 500 players to the college ranks, and more than 100 kids have gone on to be drafted. Full MLB.com story »
